Storage tips to make things a little easier
Pack heavy items into smaller boxes, making them easier to carry.
Pack the least used items into the storage unit first.
Clean objects and dry out fridges, washing machines and freezers before packing.
Place frequently used items near the entrance.
Store paperwork in lidded plastic containers.
When storing furniture, it may be worthwhile disassembling some to save space.
Store sofas and mattresses on end.
Cover furniture with dust sheets.
Keep upholstery off the floor.
Clean all clothes and tools before storing to prevent moulding.
Drain all vehicles of oil and petrol.
Strengthen mirrors by creating an ‘x’ on the glass with masking tape, then store flat.
Store washing machines, fridges and freezers with doors ajar.
Open the doors of your unit regularly and store large items with small gaps between, to help ventilation and air circulation.
Fill boxes to capacity. Boxes will give way if they are not full and will collapse if they are bulging.
